MBI Group Singles Ladder

The Marsa Sports Club Tennis Section is once again organising the popular Singles Ladder .This is open to players aged 14 and over and to players of all levels of ability.

Registration is free of charge.

Players are to book a court at the applicable fee and both players playing in the challenge should split this fee.

All MSC Tennis Section members in good club standing are kindly invited to participate.

Registration

Registrations for initial draw end on Friday 6th January 2023. The ladder will then start on Monday 9th January 2023, with the last match of phase 1 to be played before the 30th of June 2023 on which day the ladder ranking/s become final.

The players will then be split in divisions of with a knock-out phase starting from ¼ finals. T&C will apply. Each player will compete for the title in their respective division between the 1st July and the 30th July 2023.

The initial seeding will be organised by lucky draw which will be held on Saturday 7th January 2023.

How to register

Ladder will run on wotscore.com from where players can challenge others, record their results and keep track of their progress and that of other players. To register, just click on the links below and follow the instructions.

How it Works

  1. There will be one ladder for this year’s event.
  2. Standings and results will be available on the link below:

  3. You may only challenge one player at a time.
  4. You may challenge players that are a maximum of 10 positions above you.
  5. A player must challenge someone else before replaying a match against the same player.
  6. By accepting a challenge, you agree to play the challenge within 14 days after the date of acceptance.
  7. If you cannot play within 14 days, please inform the Challenger so he/she will be able to challenge another player and move on.
  8. A challenge which is accepted but not started within 14 days will expire and the Challenger will automatically win a forfeit.
  9. If the Challenger wins, he or she takes the opponent’s place on the ladder and all other players shuffle down one place.
  10. The winner of the match is responsible for reporting the results within 24 hours on the ladder’s site directly or, alternatively, by sending a WhatsApp message or email to the ladder organiser.
  11. All players are responsible for booking their own courts at MSC and for providing 3 new or almost new tennis balls for the challenge.
  12. All matches will consist of two sets. All games are played with a DIE POINT on second deuce, with a championship tie break to 10 at set all.

Phase 1: (16th January to 31st July):

Registrations for initial draw of the ladder will end on Friday  13th January 2023. The ladder will then start on Monday 16th January 2023, with the last match to be played before the 31th of July 2023, on which day the ladder ranking/s become final. In this phase, players can challenge players that are 7 places above them and will have 14 days to play the challenge.

There will be no matches in August so the ladder will have a 1 month pause.

Phase 2: (1st September – 31st October):

Players who play a minimum of 10 matches in Phase 1 will be eligible to move to phase 2. Mini ladders of 10 players will be created, based on the final ranking achieved by the 31st of July (Ladder 1 with players ending 1-10, Ladder 2 11-20, etc). During phase 2, players can challenge up to 10 places above them and challenges need to be completed within 10 days. The last match of phase 2 can be played on the 31st of October, after which ladder rankings in each division will be final.

Phase 3: K/O (6th to 26th November)

 The top 8 players of each division will qualify for the final phase which will be a K/O competition starting from Quarter Final stage. Pairings will be determined by the ladder position of each player at the end of Phase 2. (Players 1 and 2 will be seeded).

Week 1 (6th to 12th Nov) – Quarter Finals

Week 2 (13th to 19th Nov) – Semi Finals of the Main Draw and the Plate

Week 3 (20th to 26th Nov) – Finals of the Main Draw and the Plate

There will be no matches in December.
